Differences in Steel Structures

It is true that there is no unified standard for judging heavy and light steel structures. Many experienced designers or project managers can not fully explain it, but we can take some data into consideration and judge it.

1. Crane lifting weight of workshop: greater than or equal to 25 tons, which can be considered as heavy steel structure.

2. Steel consumption per square meter: greater than or equal to 50KG/, which can be considered as Chongqing Steel Structure.

3. Steel plate thickness of main components: greater than or equal to 10MM, light steel structure is less used.

In addition, there are some reference values: such as the cost per square meter, the weight of large components, large span, structural form, high eaves, which can provide empirical data in judging whether the plant is heavy or light steel, of course, many buildings are light and heavy steel. But some of them we can say with certainty are Chongqing Iron and Steel Company, such as petrochemical plant facilities, power plant plants, large-span stadiums, exhibition centers, high-rise or super-high-rise steel structures.

In fact, the national codes and technical documents do not mention that Chongqing Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. is the best way to distinguish the steel structure of light-weight houses from that of ordinary steel structures. Because the scope of ordinary steel structure is very wide, it can include all kinds of steel structures, no matter the load size, or even many contents of light steel structure, the technical specification of light steel structure of light building only stipulates some more specific contents according to its "light" characteristics, and the scope is limited to single-storey portal frame.

Light steel is also a vague term, which can be understood in two ways. One is the light steel structure of round steel and small angle steel in Chapter 11 of the current Code for Design of Steel Structures (GBJ17-88). It refers to the light steel structure made of round steel and angle steel less than L45*4 and L56*36*4.

It can be seen that the difference between light steel and Chongqing Iron and Steel is not the weight of the structure itself, but the weight of the enclosure materials it bears, but the concept of structural design is the same.
From the collected data, the foreign literature on arch shell roof structure research results was mainly published in the 1960s and 1970s. The authors of the literature were from the United States, Canada, Italy, the former Soviet Union and Australia and other countries. The contents of the literature involved full-scale experiments, component experiments, calculation methods and design ideas. Despite the theoretical and Experimental Research on this structure, many achievements have been made, but most of these achievements have been made by unrelated scholars. Few literatures have systematically analyzed and summarized them, and no practical design method of warehouse shed structure has been extracted from them.
Although arch roof structure has not appeared very often in China, due to the enthusiasm of many research institutes and the active support of enterprises, research work has made rapid progress. At present, the research results of three units have passed the national appraisal, two of them are Tsinghua University and one of Tianjin University. According to the connection mode of arch foot of metal arch corrugated roof structure, it can be divided into articulated and fixed support. In addition to the support joints (including single-span and multi-span), the commonly used structural joints include the connection between the unit plates, the connection with the gable, the waterproof and anticorrosive treatment of arch foot, roof lighting holes, lighting belt setting, roof ventilation structure, etc. Because of the difference of plate type, the node processing is slightly different (see the construction atlas for details).
